How do you get permanent marker off a door?

HurlGurl asked:

My son drew on my door with black permanent marker. The door is painted a pale pink and I have an inspection at the end of the month. Anyone know how to get rid of it short of re-painting the door?

I would try hairspray first, then I would try mr clean… i **** those things and have never found anything they work on. You cant use a solvent since its paint but you can take a picture of the pink and then match the color when you get it mixed. Your landlord should have touch up if you decide to be honest.

I got sharpie off my desk with nail polish remover, but it could take the paint off…so I’d be careful.

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser (Extra Duty) easily took permanent black marker off of my wooden kitchen table. I couldn’t believe how well it worked! If that doesn’t get it off of your door, then you could go get some Goo-Gone from a hardware store such as Lowe’s hardware; (Wal-Mart might carry it, I’m not sure). Both of these products are great to have around the house, and cheaper than re-painting your door or possibly losing your deposit money. Hope that helps!
