How can I stop a door from squeaking?

The doors to two of the bedrooms in our house squeak very loudly. I have a little sister (18 months) and when my mother or I open the door to check on her it wakes her up or disrupts her sleep. Plus, its incredibly annoying!

Try WD40 or even some cooking spray. Either one should do the trick.

Agree with the WD40, but you may need to reset the hinge pins a bit. They may just be out of whack.

You can spray wd 40 on it, baby oil, pam cooking spray, anything oily should do it….

Spray WD-40 on the door hinge that is squeaky, if that doesn’t work, remove pin from hinges and put powdered lubricate on them. Repeat on other hinges if needed.

WD40 is a quick fix but it will collect dust over time..use a spray silicone

WD-40 is good. Cooking oil will go rancid! Check the hinge screws to be sure they are tight. If one hinge is loose and not carrying it’s share of the door’s weight, it can cause the others to go out of alignment and therefor squeak. Most often, the top hinge is the one that gets loose.

Nothing will work if the door is not aligned properly. all these are temporary solutions. Check the diagonals of the door if it is flush to the door frame properly. Check the gaps between the door shutter and frame. if not get it corrected. Use good ball bearing **** Hinges. A good 4″x3″ hinge can weigh a weight of 80 Kg of door, If the shutter height is around 2100 - 2200mm use 3 Hinges this will solve your problem.
