How do I replace my sliding patio door?
December 1st, 2007 | by door |hockey1334 asked:
My patio door has been shot with a b-b gun, spider webbing the outside portion of the 2 pane glass. I need to replace just the sliding portion of the door unit, and I am not totally sure how to remove the sliding door and replace with new one. Where is it possible to buy just the sliding door and not the whole unit? Estimate?

Call some glass or window shops in your area. They can give you an exact amount. In fact they can just replace the glass inside the frame without too much trouble.

Call a glass compnay to replace the shattered glass and leave the frame alone. Be sure they replace the glass with tempered glass for safety purposes. It’ll take a few days to get the glass in for the replacement, too.

You can get the glass replacement. If it’s a newer vinyl unit you can easily replace it yourself. There are some thin trim strips on the outside of the panel. Carefully pull them out of the groves. Measure the pane of glass. When you order the glass ask them for some of the double stick tape that is used to hold the glass in. To remove the old glass make sure someone is on the outside. Then take a thin putty knife and run it around the inside of the door. Once it’s out clean off the old tape. Put the new tape around the frame with out cutting it. Put the seam at the bottom. Spray a little glass cleaner on the tape. Put the new glass in. Center it in the frame and put the stops back it. In a few hours push the glass against the frame to make sure that it’s seated. If it’s an aluminum frame you have to take the screws in the comers out and for that you might want to have the glass company do it.

it is very easy to remove door. go outside of door ,open door, grasp each side of door frame and pick up and pull bottom of door toward you, then it should be out of track ,and lower door away from top channel and voila!
