How do you adjust a door that is slightly unaligned (off) Its just a regular wooden single door to a bedroom?

The hinges look in perfect shape and or not rusty. Because the door is slightly off it will not close all the way.

The best way to determine what needs to be done to align the door is look at the reveals. (The space between the actual door and the frame. Usually the door will tend to sag, so the adjustment would need to be made at the top of the door at the hinge. You will need a long ***** 3 1/2 to 4 inches in length. Take one of the screws out of the hinge and replace it with the long *****. The ***** will penetrate beyond the door jam and into the framework and pull the door over. Watch the trim and casing as you do this so as not to create to big of a *****. You may have to have a hammer ready as the nails in the jam will pop out and have to be set. If the door doesn’t move, you may have to take the casing off from around the door on both sides to enable the door to move. Hopefully you don’t have to move the door that much. Once the door is able to shut, check to see if the latch meets the striker plate. If it is now off, you can either move the striker plate or loosen the casing so your can raise the door jam with the striker plate. This is done very similar to the other. You put a ***** in the header strip of the door jam on the top right and raise it up until the striker plate matches. Usually is it is easier to move the striker plate.

when you say it wont close all the way,do you mean it is rubbing some place or not squared to the frame? well assuming it is not square to the frame you could reset the hinges and that is tricky at best,or you could trim the door with a plane,to do that close it as far as you can and trace a line with a pencil on the inside of the door as close to the frame as possible.this will be a guide as to were to plane the door take a little off at a time unless your real brave and have done this before.if the door is only hitting a small part of the frame place a piece of scarp wood against the frame and give it a few good rap,s with a hammer to see if the frame has moved out of square.some times that’s all it takes. also check that the hinges are recessed into the door and the frame so they are flush if there out to far that will interfere with the door closing also ..good luck hope this helped you
