Why does the door lock on my car work only sometimes?

I have a 1992 honda civic with manual door locks. Sometimes I can put the key in and lock the door, and sometimes I cant. I also can’t push down the actual lock on the inside when it does this. What could be causing this?

Sounds like the lock cylinder is worn. Take it to a locksmith and they can fix it.

Try spraying some WD40 inside the hole where the key goes in and also inside the area where the contact/latch assembly contacts the striker post area on the body. That should help some as this is a bad time of year for this kind of thing with all the cold weather and salt and stuff.

It either needs lubricant , you bent a lock rod, or one of the mechanisms inside the lock is going bad. Take it to a shop for teardown and estimate. Teardown should run about 40.00 to 45.00.

    Good Luck !!!
