Paul Kelly - To Her Door

Treehouseman asked:

This is the original promo video for Kelly’s song about a guy getting his life back together after his missus leaves him. “in A Silver Top/ to her door”. Silver Top is a Taxi company (for anyone from overseas!). The Buttery (where ‘he stayed about a year” is a detox place in NSW. “On Olympic/To her door” is a reference to the bus company, Olympic.

Also maybe he dropped coloured as it was offensive to people in the USA more so than in Australia, I was always though he was Aboriginal Australian too.

When Paul sings about him going to the buttery, he’s talking about The Buttery that is located on the north coast of NSW at place called Binna Burra near Byron Bay. It used to be an old butter factory once but has become a detox clinic for adults addicted to alcohol or drugs.

I’m an Aussie/Canuck who has carried this song with him everywhere. I’ve been blessed to meet Sir Kelly a few times (but he’ll never remember), and I’ve even jammed with him in Parramatta one drunken evening somewhere around 1989….?? He’s still one of my all time fav’s and he holds a place close. I’m now a songwriter thanks to him. Peace and love Paul.
