My apartment building is old, and each apartment has two doors. The main enterance door and a smaller door that leads into the kitchen. Ive seen this before on some older buildings. why is that there?

I think it is a service entrance - if you were to have a nanny, housecleaner or plumber, etc., come in the old days they would use the back door. You can probably easily dump your trash from that exit, too — am I right?
